Those who participate in the After School Options program do so to achieve personal goals.  Many need certain credits to graduate on time, or to receive special recognition at graduation.  Personally, I wanted to raise a D+ in English 11 so I could obtain an Academic Honors Diploma this year.  With After School Options I earned my credit in only three weeks.  Because of the way the program is set up, I didn’t have to take lessons on areas I passed in the assessment test.  One of the best things about After School Options is that you can work at your own pace.

One reason those who join do well is that, typically, they come to help themselves.  They don’t do the work to please anyone else, only to work toward a personal goal.  The idea is that you can finish whenever you complete the program, no matter how long it takes.  If you complete the requirements in three weeks, then you are finished.  If it takes you longer, then whenever you are done, you’re done.  It’s not like regular school; you can finish earlier with more effort.  The amount of effort you put in is directly reflected in the amount of time it takes to finish the program.

The environment in the After School Options program is very laid back.  This is due in large part to the fact that everyone wants to get their work done so they can receive their credit.  Of course, there is some laughing and joking.  W all like to have fun, but work does get finished.  It got to the point where I enjoyed going there after school.  Although I was ecstatic when I finished the program and relieved to earn my credit on time, it was kind of sad that I wouldn’t see those people every week anymore.  Mr. Leahy makes the situation very comfortable and has no problems answering questions when they arise.  With his help, and the help of one another, we are able to complete these classes that would have kept us from graduating.
